Elyria City Schools needs our votes for a critical levy on the November 3rd ballot
– to keep preparing Elyria students for successful futures.
This Issue is Necessary to Prevent More Reductions and Protects Education.
It is a 10-year, 8.9-mill emergency levy that, if approved, would raise $11.6 million per year to support the district’s operations. It funds the programs and training that enrich Elyria students’ education and provide skills they need for college and/or careers and prevents damaging cuts to education.

It is has been 16 years since we have increased local operating furnds

This is due to Elyria City Schools’ excellent fiscal stewardship, which has resulted in 20+ consecutive clean audit awards from the Auditor of State and earning the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association every year since 1998.
We have made $9 million in cuts and more cuts would devastate education in our community. Those cuts include:

-
45 teaching positions
-
12 substitutes, 9 tutors, 5 student support positions
-
12 administrative positions
-

-
Busing scaled back to state minimums, reduced crossing guards
-
Reduced funding for classroom materials, vocational experiences for special education students, field trips, and contracted services.

Elyria City Schools has cut costs to stretch the budget for years, including streamlining low-attendance programs and restructuring administrative positions. Now, our district needs our support.
